SafeTrack in Sortifyd helps you stay connected with the people who matter most. It lets you share your real-time location with your Circle, create Safe Spots for places you visit often, and receive notifications when someone arrives or leaves. SafeTrack gives peace of mind without being intrusive, so you always know your loved ones are safe and in sync.
Opening SafeTrack
To get started, tap the location pin icon at the top right of your Sortifyd home screen.
This opens the SafeTrack screen, where you’ll see a map view of your Circle. Learn how to add others to your Circle.
Navigating the SafeTrack Map
At the top right of the main SafeTrack map screen, you’ll find options to filter which Circle members are shown and to open Settings
. Settings is where you can enable permissions and manage your Safe Spots.
On the right side of the SafeTrack screen, you’ll find a vertical menu of quick-access buttons:
Circle – View everyone in your Circle with location sharing enabled, and tap a profile to see their details.
-
Expand map – Zoom out to fit all Circle members on the screen at once.
-
Trail – Turn trails on or off to view recent movement paths. Live updating pauses while trails are displayed.
-
Safe Spots – Show or hide Safe Spot circles on the map.
-
Layers – Switch between Standard (the default street-style map), Hybrid (satellite with labels), or Satellite (imagery only).
-
Compass – Reorient the map so that North is at the top.
Enabling Permissions
Before you can start using SafeTrack with your Circle, you’ll need to enable a few permissions. On iOS (screens shown in this article), you’ll see prompts as you navigate SafeTrack. On Android, the permission requests will look similar.
-
Location Access – Required to share your real-time location.
At first, iOS may only let you allow access to While Using the App.
After your first SafeTrack session, iOS will prompt you again to allow Always. This option is needed so your Circle can see your location even if the app is closed or running in the background.
Note: Your location is never shared if you’re logged out of Sortifyd.
Motion & Fitness Activity – Lets Sortifyd show your current activity (walking, running, driving) as detected by iOS.
Notifications – Required if you want to receive SafeTrack alerts when Circle members arrive at or leave your Safe Spots.
While you’ll see these prompts as you use SafeTrack, you can always revisit and update them later in:
Sortifyd Settings (
top right of the SafeTrack screen)
iOS device settings under Settings > Sortifyd
Managing Location Sharing
Once permissions are enabled, you can control how your location is shared with your Circle from within SafeTrack:
Shared Mode – Your live location is visible to Circle members. They can also see your activity (walking, driving, etc.), recent trails, and battery level.
Private Mode – Pause sharing at any time. While in Private Mode, your Circle will not see your current location or activity.
What others see when you switch to Private Mode
Your Circle will continue to see your pin at the last location where you were in Shared Mode, but they won’t see updates after that.
If trails are enabled, the portion of your trail after switching to Private Mode will not be visible to others.
What you see in Private Mode
You’ll always see your own trail, including while private.
For your reference, the private portion of your trail is shown in black.
To switch modes:
Go to SafeTrack Settings (
at the top right of the SafeTrack screen).
Tap Sharing Location to toggle between Shared and Private.
Adding and Managing Safe Spots
Safe Spots are saved places such as home, school, or work where you can receive alerts when someone in your Circle arrives or leaves.
When you first open SafeTrack, you’ll see a few placeholder Safe Spots already listed (for example, Home, Work, School). These are simply thought starters. You can tap to edit them with your own details, or delete them if they’re not useful.
To add a new Safe Spot:
Tap + Add Safe Spot from the SafeTrack screen.
Enter a name and confirm the address on the map.
Adjust the alert radius (for example, 200 ft for home, larger for schools or workplaces).
Choose a color for the Safe Spot (optional).
Select which Circle members should trigger notifications when they arrive or depart.
Tap Save.
Managing Safe Spots
To edit a Safe Spot, tap it from your list and update the details.
-
To delete a Safe Spot, either:
Open the Safe Spot and tap Delete, or
Swipe right to left on the Safe Spot in your list.
From the map view, use the Safe Spots button in the vertical menu to show or hide Safe Spot circles.
Viewing Your Circle and Activity
From the SafeTrack map, tap on a Circle member to view their details and recent activity.
Each person’s detail card shows:
Last seen – When their location was most recently updated.
Distance from you – How far away they are.
Current activity – Such as walking, driving, or stationary (based on Motion & Fitness data).
Travel summary – Distance traveled in the last 24 hours.
Battery level – Their device’s current battery percentage.
From the detail card, you can also:
Call or
text them directly (if they’ve added a phone number to their profile).
Get directions to their current location, which opens in your preferred maps app.
You can also send quick reactions like 👋 All good? or 💛 Thinking of you. These pre-populate a text message that you can send, making it easy to check in with just a tap.
Beneath the card, you’ll see a Recent activity feed for the last 24 hours, showing when that person arrived at, left, or stayed at a Safe Spot.
Staying Prepared with SafeTrack
SafeTrack is built around location updates, and its value grows when used alongside Sortifyd’s other tools. Knowing when your loved ones arrive safely at a place is important, and you can also stay in sync through your shared calendar, tasks and lists, important contacts, and records.
Together, these features help your family not only know where everyone is but also stay equipped with what they need, wherever they are.

Quick Tips
Use Private Mode whenever you want to temporarily disable sharing your live location.
Keep Safe Spot radii small for accuracy. A range of 200–300 ft usually works best for homes.
Create Safe Spots for the places you visit most often, such as home, school, work, or the gym.
Make sure Location, Motion & Fitness, and Notifications permissions are enabled for the best SafeTrack experience.
If location updates seem delayed, check your device’s battery and network connection, as both can affect real-time sharing.
Note
After a free trial (if available), you may need to upgrade your plan to continue using SafeTrack. See Subscription Plans for a comparison of the available plans and to choose the one that’s right for you and your family/Circle.
